Tennessee Driver’s License
Driver Education:
The State of Tennessee does not require you to take any special driver education courses in order to obtain your driver license. However, helpful courses are offered at most high schools, and you can find listings for other commercial providers in the yellow pages and online.
Here are a few suggestions to get started:
- Once you have your learner permit, you can begin to practice driving, as long as you are accompanied by a licensed driver who is 21 or older, and you drive during the hours allowed.
- You can pick up a copy of the Tennessee Driver Handbook to study (as well as a plethora of other informational manuals and pamphlets) at your local driver license station, or you can download a copy in PDF format.
- Take a practice driver's license test. There are four practice tests available online for free.
- Remember, before you can even apply for your intermediate restricted license, you must have a valid learner's permit. If you are younger than 18, you must have your learner's permit for a total of 180 days (along with the other requirements).
