Illinois Driver’s License
Driver Education:
The Illinois State Department of Education is the overseeing body for all school driver’s classes. The courses approved by this body must include a minimum of 30 hours of in-class education and 6 hours of on-the-road training.
For those with lots of driving practice already they can skip up to 3 hours of this required practice depending on the judgment of the instructor.
For aspiring drivers who get a private education, they may get in their classroom hours at a school in their local area (where they would be going to school if not at a private institution).
To even be able to receive driver’s education however, students must have a passing grade in at minimum 8 courses over the last 3 school terms. Good grades matter.
Lastly, those looking to obtain their first license have to complete, after finishing the driver education course, 50 hours of behind-the-wheel practice that is supervised by a parent or guardian that is themselves over 21 years old. Then one is eligible to apply for a driver's license.
