car-workshopCar detailing includes the professional and thorough cleaning and finishing of an automobile inside and out. Most professional detailing companies allow you to mix and match packages giving you flexibility to detail what you want on your vehicle.

Interior detailing includes the entire inside of the car from seats, carpets, and floor mats to more. This may include shampooing, brushing and drying of all too cleaning stains and dirty spots. All instrument panels and surfaces will be cleaned with convenient brushes and compressed air including knobs, switches, dials, vents, seat belts, steering wheel, steering column, door handles, cup holders, consoles, glove box, navigation screens, and all other compartments, crevices, and additional interior surfaces.  Exterior detailing includes thorough cleaning of all exterior surfaces of the car including the paint, trim, windows, tires, exhaust tips, wheels, bumpers and other exterior surfaces.

There are a few requirements that any auto detailing service company should provide. Below are some of the basic restoration detailing options that most companies offer.

Paint

One of the goals of an exterior detailing job is to ensure the paint is restored to bring out the shine, remove scratches and deter future damage. A three-step process is typically conducted on a vehicle to ensure that the paint is in prime shape. It will be cleaned, corrected and protected with a clear coat. The vehicle will have all bugs and tar removed, the paint may be clayed to remove imperfections, and then polished to provide a nice natural shine. This polish will also provide the extra layer of protection needed as well.

Chassis and Wheels

The chassis should be cleaned thoroughly along with the wheels and wheel wells (including suspension components as necessary). Oils, brake dust, and other chemicals will build up in these locations, which will ultimately lead to a breakdown in your tires. Proper cleaning will keep your tires in better condition and reduce corrosion concerns.

Exterior Trim, Headlights, and Taillights

The type of trim you have will determine how it is treated. Chrome trim is cleaned to ensure it is nice and shiny, while plastic or vinyl is cleaned and treated with a protectant. This will help the trim last longer without any defects. Any scratches will be treated and removal of the scratches will be attempted. The goal is to look as new as possible.

Headlights and taillights will go through a polishing phase to remove the faded look. Again, scratch removal will be attempted in an effort to restore the fresh new look.

Engine Bay

Detailing the engine bay is a three-step process. This is something that every professional detailing company will do if you want an exterior detailing package completed. It is highly important to the overall performance of your vehicle. A quick rundown of what a detailing professional will do to clean the engine bay is below.

First, the engine and the engine compartment are cleaned to remove debris from the hood, grill and vent. After that all sensors, distributor, spark plug openings, electrical devices, etc. are to be covered for water protection. The second step in the cleaning process is to apply the degreaser and let it sit for a good 3 to 5 minutes. The third step is to remove the degreaser by hosing down the engine compartment with water.

After the engine is dry, a protectant should be applied to the engine and the engine compartment to protect it from corrosion and other damage.

Interior

Interior auto detailing is typically available in various packages because of the amount of detailing that can be performed on the inside of a vehicle. Some of the possible options include: vacuuming and shampooing carpets and floor mats (including stain removal), dog hair removal, leather or vinyl cleaning and conditioner (shampooing possible with stain removal), cabin cleaning including cup holders, console, vents, dash, door panels, and all other surfaces. Window treatments both inside and out with Rain-X. Extra features may include seat belts, seat fixtures, headliner cleaning, and more. Interior detail cleaning is important to keep your vehicle in pristine condition.

Auto detailing is typically broken down into packages such as interior only, exterior only, a portion of each or an elite package of the two. Oklahoma car detailing service offers a wide array of services and packages. Detailing is time consuming, but it is an excellent way to preserve your vehicle’s life span. Remember though, detailing does not include major repairs, only small paint restoration type issues.
